Hurricane Sandy Relief: How you can help

The impact of the hurricane that hit us this week is unprecedented in our area. As a result, millions have been impacted directly or indirectly (many New Lifers throughout Queens and Long Island have been impacted). We foresee that there will be significant needs in the days and weeks to come. As a result, we want to do the best we can to thoughtfully and urgently provide relief to those in need. Below is a plan that we are putting in place to mobilize as many people to serve as possible. I recognize that with the gas crisis before us, this only complicates things. But, I believe we can do more than we think. God is with us. He’s a very present help in time of trouble. Out of that, we can be a very present help to those in trouble as well. Here’s 4 things you can begin to do:

1) If you have internet service (or if you can post on behalf of someone), go to our New Life Facebook Page.

If you are able to provide help, post what type of help you are able to provide (hot shower, water, batteries, place to stay for few days) and where you live.

If you or someone you know is in need, post the type of need requested, name of person and appropriate contact info location of person in need.

The hope is that people will take the initiative to help each other out as needs arise on our page. So, we are hoping to make Facebook a “meeting place.”

For more sensitive information, email hurricane@newlifefellowship.org

2) Become an area “Captain” and/or “Runner”

We need people who are in a better place to serve as neighborhood/area captains. Captains will be responsible for following up with New Lifers and others in their neighborhoods who have been affected. Right now, we have someone who is in Downtown Brooklyn, and can walk across the bridge to LES to provide help. I want to encourage small groups that are able to think about serving together in some way.

If you are in a good place in Nassau, Rockaways, Howard Beach, Brooklyn, etc. and can take on this role to help those in need, email smallgroups@newlifefellowship.org.

Runners are those who are able to transport supplies to area captains.

3) If you can donate (and every bit counts), you can give HERE.  This will help up purchase items and provide short-term relief.

DONATE HERE
Choose “General” and place “Hurricane Relief” at comment box.

4) Sundays: This Sunday we will communicate a list of items to bring in to continue helping.

More info will come. Let’s continue to love and serve our great city!
